Yesterday was International Women's Day - a global day to celebrate the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women and a chance to call for action in accelerating gender equality. At Cyrenian House we are lucky to have so many amazing women working across all levels of the organisation. We are thrilled to acknowledge this important day and these incredible women, today and everyday.

#BalanceTheScales for all women and girls.

Here are just a few pictures from some of our services celebrating this important day.

Last year, Cyrenian House purchased two properties for use in our Transitional Housing & Accommodation Support Program (THASP). Dani, Sandy and Greg recently helped set up the houses ready for residents to move in.

The detached duplex, built in 2019, offers spacious and modern living arrangements, for our recently graduated Therapeutic Community residents. The layout of the houses will allow for increased connection with others in recovery and an expanded support network within the home environment.

These two properties replace accommodation we previously rented, allowing us to improve the sustainability of the program. THASP offers tailored support alongside connection with further study, support groups, work and training opportunities. Yesterday was International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women. This marks the start of WA’s 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, led by the Department of Communities.

Cyrenian House’s staff and residents from Munda Mia Therapeutic Community joined the 35th March Against Domestic and Family Violence, hosted by the Centre for Women's Safety and Wellbeing - thank you to everyone who marched in solidarity.

Everyone has a role in standing up against family and domestic violence. We all need to play our part to help end the cycle of violence and promote gender equality in Western Australia.
